Cultural Olympiad Weekend at the Big Screen

24 – 25 July 2010

Norwich Big Screen – Chapelfield Plain, Norwich

A range of cultural activities from the local community showcased at the screen site. Building on lasts years’ success we will be engaging with groups such as dance, theatre, education, music, performance, environmental and sports in order for them to perform in a programmed event over the weekend.

Whitlingham Outdoor Education Centre, Norwich

Come and join us for a fun afternoon of unique sports with a competitive edge!

Submit a team of 6 people (2 of which will need to be between the ages of 8-16) and compete against other teams in four different sporting activities including: archery, orienteering, kayaking and watt bike cycling. Scores will be awarded to each team depending on performance and aggregated at the end of the event to give an overall winner. A prize will be awarded to the winning team!

Norfolk Village Games Roadshow

A Festival of Sport including, Cycle Speedway, Football, Athletics, Bowls, Badminton, Tennis and much more. There will be an opportunity for the public to take part in Open Events and competitions together with the opportunity to try new sports.

Hethersett’s Got Talent

Hethersett Village Hall

A Variety and Talent Show open to all Hethersett Villagers. There will be auditions and heats held locally culminating in the grand finals at Hethersett Village Hall on 23 July. There will be a small admission charge on the night to cover costs.

Run the Square

25 July 2010

Starting at 11am

Starts and Finishes at Queens Road, Hethersett

Recreating a village legacy. "Run the Square" was a two mile road race along an oblong course through Hethersett in the 1940`s & 50`s. The 2010 fun run will follow a similar course. All ages and abilities are welcome to run or walk. A certificate and memento will be presented to all finishers.

Well renowned The Pulham Orchestra will play Classical themed pieces along with contemporary favouries to suit all tastes. The Orchestra was founded in 1983 and are respected in South Norfolk and have appeared at many concerts and events across the Region. Tickets cost £5 which include refreshements.

Holkham Beach Clean and Recycled Art Event

Holkham National Nature Reserve is managed by Natural England to enhance and protect the special habitats found here. It is visited by 80,000 visitors every year who come to enjoy the magnificent scenery and wildlife. Litter is a hazard and eyesore for people and wildlife around our coastline. Our beach clean up and art event will not only result in a cleaner environment, but under the guidance of artist Karen Whiterod we hope you can help to create lasting artwork to raise awareness of litter hazards for visitors of the future.

Blast Off! Space Hop Summer Reading Challenge

Skate Park Launch Event

Breckland Theatre Festival

Breckland Council has joined up with Creative Arts East to offer you the chance to watch memorable theatre in towns and villages across the district.

Our voluntary promoting groups will host regional and national theatre companies performing some fantastic shows for all ages.

This exciting programme caters for all ages and a broad range of tastes. These include: Phileous P Souper, a show that takes audiences on a musical trip around the world; The Bell, a Murder Mystery; Yes a cabaret celebrating the life of poet Adrian Mitchell; and Liang and the Magic Paintbrush which includes puppetry, painting and a wonderful impression of Margaret Thatcher.

The Chalk Giants

Norwich Puppet Theatre, Whitefriars, Norwich

Come to the first public performances of The Chalk Giants before its international premiere at the Edinburgh Festival.

The Chalk Giants retells the tales of Jack the Giant Killer .... but from the giant's perspective. The story is told with a narrative by John Agard, chalk drawings, video projections, puppets and specially composed music by Jonathan Lambert.

The Chalk Giants will change your ideas of the tales of old, excite you to discover the medium of chalk, and challenge you to dig into your creative skills and draw!

In the process discover things about our landscape and history, and enjoy the atmosphere in the Grade 1 listed building that houses Norwich Puppet Theatre.

This co-production between Steve Tiplady and Sally Brown of Indefinite Articles and Norwich Puppet Theatre is supported by an award from the National Lottery through Arts Council England.

Norwich 12 Challenge

Take the Norwich 12 challenge and discover 1,000 years of Norwich's history while getting some exercise! Starting at The Forum, follow the trail and collect the clues at each of the city's 12 most iconic buildings to complete the challenge.
